Blindata Platform

Blindata is a platform designed to manage Data Governance and Compliance processes: an integrated tool to make the use of data efficient and compliant with legal obligations. It maximises the value of data, supports change management, ensures regulatory compliance, and provides transparency and fairness to customers. Through its collaboration capabilities Blindata aims to democratise data within organisations and promote a data culture among all its users.

A shared approach to issues such as business glossary, data catalogue and data quality is a key factor for user involvement and the success of a data governance programme. The design from scratch of the platform has resulted in a solution that is simple to use but at the same time scalable in the most complex cases. It allows results to be achieved in a short time, without requiring training and lengthy customisation projects.

Each function, available through specific application areas of the platform, is usable individually, but closely linked to the others, in the integrated and multidisciplinary vision of Data Governance and Compliance that inspired the development of the platform itself.

Blindata is a modular solution that can be used in Saas and/or on-premises according to needs and use cases. It offers a set of Open APIs to facilitate integration with external systems and structure governance and compliance processes according to specific needs.

Blindata’s approach to data governance and compliance offers a product:

Because it was designed from scratch to enable organisations of any complexity to carry out properly structured data governance and compliance programmes.

Because it allows you to achieve results in a short time, without requiring exhausting training and complex customisation projects.

Because it is intrinsic to the design of the product, it is possible to implement all or just some of the proposed modules independently.

Because being based on open APIs, it is possible to support the most diverse integration scenarios without placing constraints on any specific technology.

Blindata Governance

Business Glossary

In order to spread the culture of data, it is necessary to have a knowledge of data itself. And therefore have a shared and unambiguous definition of it, which can highlight the links with business processes. We are answering the question “What is data?” and we are doing so with the element of Data Governance identified as the Business Glossary. The Business Glossary contains the semantic definition of data, defines a common business vocabulary and avoids misunderstandings and errors. It is the access point to the world of data, the first element that brings us closer to the goal of a shared data culture.

Data Catalog

This is the module dedicated to the cataloguing of all data repositories (Data Assets), carried out through the collection of Metadata. Within the Data Catalog, information on structured data (e.g. relational databases), semi-structured or unstructured data (xml, JSON, documents), dashboards, reports, machine learning models, … can be collected.

Data Lineage

The Data Lineage is a basic tool for Data Governance. It consists of identifying and representing the data lifecycle, from the source system to the various destinations, highlighting all the points in the infrastructure and business processes through which the data move, as well as all the transformations undergone by the data along the way and the interdependent relationships between the data.

Data Quality

The Data Quality module offers a minimal framework for active monitoring of data quality through the use of KQIs. Once KQIs are defined and data quality probes for retrieving metrics are implemented, they are published within Blindata and made accessible to users.

Integration with other Blindata modules is native and immediate, making the data quality module an enriching element of the data catalogue and business glossary functions. The collaboration functionalities already present throughout the platform make it possible for users to interact and share data quality aspects within the organisation.

Data Classification

The objective of the Blinded Data Classification module is to provide the tools to support the identification of vertical lineage links, i.e. the links between the data catalogue and the business glossary. Through a set of user-definable rules depending on the domain of its data assets and a set of standard rules, the data classification module samples the data assets and attempts to attribute a semantic meaning to the individual elements.

The framework of the data classification module allows the output of different types of rules to be combined not only to identify the type of content of a single data element (e.g. email, address, tax code) but also to attribute a specific business entity (e.g. customer, employee, supplier).

Stewardship

The Stewardship module in Blindata allows the definition and management of roles. Through the definition of roles, it is possible to assign responsibilities to users on specific resources. Blindata’s functionalities make it possible to historicise and track the evolution of roles and responsibilities over time. Users of the platform are thus able to identify the technical and/or business-side contact persons for specific data assets under consideration.

Blindata Compliance

Quality Assessment

The Quality Assessment module provides the tools to define and assess the risks to which the company’s data assets are exposed. A methodology for using the platform is then enabled, which starts from risk analysis to define the KQIs of interest and over time allows the effectiveness of quality controls to be monitored and kept adequate, prioritising the areas of intervention with a higher associated risk.

Record of Processing Activities

Blindata’s Processing Registry module makes it possible to manage the processing registry and census the activities that are carried out on the data. The module makes it possible to map

  • Processing: the processing of personal and non-personal data that is carried out within the organisation
  • Tasks: the operational activities, services or contracts that require personal data processing activities
  • Data Actor: the legal entities and figures entitled to process personal data

Blindata’s processing registry makes it possible to manage the processing registry for one or more legal entities in a way that is accurate, verifiable and integrated with corporate information systems. Through APIs and massive update functionalities, it is possible to define integration and alignment processes with management systems.

Privacy Notices

Contact with data subjects takes place using more and more different channels: email, website, telephone, mobile apps, social media. Coordinating all touchpoints is complex, but essential. Blindata provides effective tools for distributing disclosures, collecting and displaying consent. Through the definition of multilingual and multi-version disclosures, easily integrated into the different touchpoints. Blindata guarantees controlled but at the same time flexible management.

Consent Hub

Blindata manages the collection and historicization of consent: any processing that requires consent (but also the simple reading of information) can be submitted to the data subject and then notarised on the Blockchain, protecting the data subject and the data controller against any disputes. Together with the data governance and issue management functionalities, the module is enriched with reporting and functionalities to respond to the rights of the interested parties according to the accountability principle prescribed by the GDPR.
